Weekly Message December 6, 2024
My Dearest Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This Sunday, our parish family has the joy of welcoming back Deacon Greg Gounardes and Presvytera Andrea to Saints Constantine and Helen Cathedral. Deacon Greg served our community as Pastoral Assistant for two years, leaving an indelible mark through his dedication, love, and service.
His story is deeply woven into the fabric of our parish. It was here that he met his wife, Andrea, whose family has long been active members of our community. Together, they worked side by side at A. Fantis School, shaping and guiding the
next generation of faithful. Now, as a deacon, he returns to us in a new capacity, continuing his journey in the Holy Diaconate—the first step toward the priesthood.
The role of a deacon is a sacred one, rooted in the early Church. Deacons are called to serve both the altar and the people of God, reflecting Christ’s humility and love. Their ministry reminds us that all service within the Church begins with a heart of devotion to God and others.
This Sunday, during the Divine Liturgy, we will witness Deacon Greg serve as a minister of Christ in his new role, surrounded by the community that nurtured and inspired his calling. It is a beautiful testament to the life of our parish and the fruits of faithful service within our community.
I encourage you to attend this Sunday’s Divine Liturgy and join us in extending a warm welcome to Deacon Greg and Presvytera Andrea. Their journey is a blessing to us all, and your presence will make this homecoming even more meaningful.
In Christ’s love
