Weekly Message May 29, 2026

by Father Evagoras Constantinides on May 29, 2026

Beloved brothers and sisters,

This weekend, we celebrate the great feast of Pentecost: the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the birth of the Church.

Pentecost reminds us that the Church was never meant to be simply a building or an institution. From the very beginning, the Church was people gathered together, united by faith, transformed by the Holy Spirit, and sent out into the world to proclaim the Gospel and build community.

And what a fitting connection this is as we prepare to begin the Brooklyn Greek Festival on Monday.

At first glance, a festival may seem very different from Pentecost. But in reality, the Festival is one of the greatest expressions of who we are as a community. It is people coming together across generations to serve, welcome, cook, organize, clean, dance, laugh, and work side by side for something bigger than themselves.

For one week, our Cathedral becomes a place of encounter. Thousands of people will walk through our grounds. Some will come for the food, some for the music, some for the culture. But what they should leave remembering most is the spirit of our community: our love, our hospitality, our joy, and our faith.

That is Pentecost lived out in real life.

The Holy Spirit gathered people together from every background and language into one Church. And every year, during Festival week, we see a small reflection of that same reality here in Brooklyn.

So as we celebrate Pentecost and begin Festival week, let us approach both with gratitude and purpose.

Come to Church.
Pray together.
Then come serve together.

Volunteer. Invite friends. Bring your family. Be part of it.

Because what we are building here is more than an event. We are building community. We are building memories. We are building a place where people encounter something real.

And in a world where so many people are searching for belonging, that matters now more than ever.

With love in Christ,
Fr. Evagoras
