Weekly Message September 25, 2026

Beloved brothers and sisters,

Even though our community picnic is cancelled this weekend because of the weather, the spirit of our community certainly is not.

In fact, our ministry calendar is off to a strong start. Our youth ministries are already underway, thanks to Mr. John and an amazing Youth Committee who continue to give their time, energy, and love to our children. Sunday School begins October 4. Our Philoptochos has had a wonderful start to the year. And, of course, we welcomed more students to A. Fantis this year than at any time in more than 20 years.

These are not simply numbers on a calendar or enrollment reports. They are signs of a community that is growing.

That growth does not happen by accident. It happens because of the hard work and dedication of so many people who believe in this Cathedral, our school, our ministries, and in the future we are building together.

But ultimately, our growth comes from something deeper.

It comes from our belief in who we are, what we stand for, and who we aspire to be in the world.

We are a community of love, kindness, openness, inclusion, and grace. We are a community that wants people to know that there is a place for them here. Increasingly, people are finding Saints Constantine and Helen not simply because they live nearby, but because they identify with the kind of community we are trying to become.

That is something worth celebrating.

And it is also something worth protecting and strengthening.

A parish does not remain vibrant simply because it has a beautiful church building or a long history. It remains vibrant because people choose to invest themselves in it. They show up. They serve. They welcome. They bring their children. They invite their friends. They participate in ministries. They pray together. They care for one another.

Our Cathedral is more than a historic institution. It is a living community, and its future is being shaped by what we do today.

So, while we may not be gathering together tomorrow around picnic tables, food, and fellowship, don’t let a little rain dampen our spirit!

The work continues. The ministries continue. The growth continues. And, most importantly, our life together in Christ continues.

I am grateful for everyone who is helping to build up and support our historic Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Brooklyn. There is so much happening, and I truly believe that we are only beginning to see what God has in store for this community.

The picnic may be cancelled. The momentum is not.
