Weekly Message November 1, 2024
My Dearest Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This Sunday, as thousands of runners hit the streets for the NYC Marathon, they’ll be putting months of preparation to the test, focusing on each step, and relying on their dedication and endurance to see them through to the finish line. In many ways, this journey reflects our own spiritual path.
Just as marathon runners prepare and strengthen themselves for a grueling race, we are called to nurture our faith through constant prayer and regular worship. Prayer is like the steady, rhythmic breath of a runner—sustaining, renewing, and drawing us closer to Christ as we navigate life’s challenges. Coming to church is the spiritual equivalent of reaching key milestones, where we are refueled by community, comforted by Christ, and uplifted by the sacraments.
As the marathoners take on their race this weekend, let us be inspired by their commitment. We, too, have a goal—to grow closer to God, to build a stronger relationship with Him, and to live out His love daily. Whether you’re attending services, joining in fellowship, or simply lighting a candle in prayer, remember that each step you take in your faith is one more toward the ultimate “finish line”—eternity with our Creator.
Let us keep the marathoners, our church family, and each other in prayer this Sunday. May our spiritual journey be as steadfast as theirs, and may we meet every challenge with faith, focus, and unyielding hope.
In Christ’s love,
