Weekly Message January 23, 2026

by Father Evagoras Constantinides on January 23, 2026

Beloved brothers and sisters,

This past weekend and into the early part of the week, our home was without power and heat. It was an unexpected challenge, especially in the cold, and it reminded me very quickly how vulnerable we all are when the basics we rely on are suddenly gone.

I want to sincerely thank George Poulon, Gregory Poulon, Milan Mladenovic, Jim Tampakis, Javier, and Maki, who helped us resolve the situation with ConEd, Uncle Andrew and Jay who housed us for three days, and so many others who reached out, checked in, offered help, and made sure that we were safe, warm, and cared for. Those calls, messages, and visits meant more than you know. They were a quiet but powerful reminder of what community truly looks like.

Moments like this reveal something important. Church is not only about gathering on Sundays. It is about showing up for one another in real and practical ways. It is about caring for our neighbor, both those we know well and those we may not know at all. This is how faith becomes lived experience.

As we now look ahead to the coming snowstorm this weekend, I encourage everyone to keep this spirit in mind. Check in on one another. Help an elderly neighbor by shoveling a walkway. Offer to pick up groceries or food for someone who cannot easily leave home. A phone call, a small act of kindness, or a simple offer of help can make all the difference.

This is the message of Christ. To love our neighbor. To care for one another. To be present when it matters most.

With love in Christ,

Fr. Evagoras
