My Dearest Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As we witness the ongoing devastation caused by the fires in California, my prayers—and I am sure yours—go out to all those affected. We ask God to protect those in harm’s way, strengthen the firefighters and first responders, and comfort those who have lost so much. This is a time for us to lift our voices in prayer for healing and restoration.

This weekend, I will have the honor of attending events surrounding the inauguration of President Donald Trump alongside His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros. This historic moment is a reminder of our shared responsibility as Christians to pray for the leaders of our nation, regardless of political affiliations or opinions.

In nearly every Orthodox service, we offer a petition for our president, government, and public servants. This tradition, observed in Orthodox churches around the world, is rooted in our understanding that leaders are in need of God’s guidance, strength, and grace. We pray that they lead with wisdom, courage, kindness, and justice, seeking the good of all people entrusted to their care.

As Americans and as Christians, we are called to come together, especially in times of division and challenge. Prayer unites us and helps us to build one another up. While we celebrate the peaceful transition of power—a hallmark of our democracy—our greater work begins in supporting our leaders through prayer and seeking to contribute to the common good in our daily lives.

May this inauguration be an opportunity for us to renew our commitment to living as faithful witnesses of Christ in our communities and as citizens of this great nation. May God bless our country, its leaders, and its people with His grace and peace.

In prayer for all,
