Weekly Message December 13, 2024
My Dearest Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This Sunday, the Gospel reading from Luke 14:16-24 recounts the parable of the Great Banquet. A man prepares a magnificent feast and extends invitations to many, yet, one by one, those invited offer excuses. They are too busy, too preoccupied, too distracted to accept the call. In the end, others take their places at the table, while those who refused the invitation miss out on the feast entirely.
This parable challenges us to reflect on our priorities. Every Sunday, Christ Himself extends an invitation to each of us. The Divine Liturgy is our Great Banquet, where we are nourished by His Word, His presence, and His Body and Blood. Yet, how often do we allow the busyness of life to offer excuses?
As Christians, regular church attendance is not simply a tradition—it is an essential part of our spiritual lives. For families, it is the foundation upon which faith is built, modeled, and passed on to the next generation. Children learn what matters most not from what we say, but from what we prioritize. By coming to church every Sunday, we show them that God is at the center of our lives and that worship is a joy, not a burden.
This is not to say that life’s challenges and obligations aren’t real. But we must ask ourselves: are these things drawing us closer to Christ or pulling us away? The truth is, the banquet is prepared, and the invitation is open. It is up to us to accept it, week after week, for the sake of our souls and the spiritual health of our families.
I urge you to make a commitment to consistent church attendance, not as an obligation, but as a gift to yourself and your loved ones. Christ is waiting, always ready to welcome you with open arms and a seat at His table.
Wishing you strength and joy as we journey together in faith,
