Youth Ministries

The Centerpiece of our Youth Ministry - Sunday School

The goal of Sunday School is to show our children how to lead Christian lives. The Sunday School teacher supplements and reinforces the work of the priest and the parents in the Christian formation of the children of our Cathedral.

Our Orthodox tradition strongly believes in the importance of a family worshipping together during our divine services. For this reason, families will come to church on Sundays and worship together; that means sitting together, praying together, and receiving the holy gifts together. Immediately following Holy Communion, our Sunday School children will meet their teachers in the narthex and will head to their lessons in the A. Fantis School building until 11:45 am. Your children will then meet you in the church hall, at the conclusion of their lesson.

Bring your child to Sunday School to learn about our Savior, Jesus Christ. Using His teachings as our foundation, we bring the child to know and practice the Orthodox Christian faith. For more information or to register your child, please call the Church Office!

Hope

The Holy Orthodox Primary Education, or HOPE's mission is to strengthen the relationship of young Orthodox Christians with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The program works to educate and edify young members of the Church, encouraging them to become active sacramental participants in the life of the Body of Christ. This ministry offers them the opportunity to experience the Faith, ultimately leading them to Salvation.

HOPE is a ministry of the Church and is open to all children in Kindergarten through Second Grade. It is not an organization or club, but simply a gathering of the faithful of the Church who share the same grades, ages, and common interests. It is a spiritual ministry, based on the theological tenets of the Orthodox Christian Faith.

The four elements of worship, fellowship, service, and witness will be integrated into the program. The meetings will involve prayer, mini-lessons with movement and discussion, arts and crafts, snacks, and playtime. HOPE meets in conjunction with JOY.

Joy

JOY (Junior Orthodox Youth) is our youth group for children in grades three through six. The JOY program has the same objectives as all ministries of the church: to lead young people into a living and active relationship with Jesus Christ.

Consequently, the programs and activities that we develop must always, directly and indirectly, lead in this direction. It is at this age that a foundation of faith can best be set; a foundation that will guide and strengthen our young people as they progress into junior high and high school.

GOYA

The foundation of all youth ministry is the cultivation and education of our young people in order to become viable members of the Body of Christ.

It is virtually impossible to keep up with every new trend and movement in youth culture. Growing up in today’s society is a much more difficult task than it was in previous times. Our young people are being shaped by negative and destructive influences, ones that can and will define who they are and who they will become. For this reason, the positive teachings and traditions of the Orthodox Church must become a living presence in their lives. This makes youth ministry not an option, but a necessity.

The Greek Orthodox Youth of America, or GOYA, ministers to young people in grades 7 – 12

President: To Be Elected in Fall 2024

GOYA will focus on Greek Dance lessons, as well as events, outings, and other service opportunities. Join us for our opening BBQ this Saturday, September 14th

Liturgical Servers

Every Sunday, we have a special gathering called the Divine Liturgy, where we all come together to celebrate and be a part of a wonderful community event. It's like a team effort!

Boys who are in the First Grade or older can join as altar boys. Altar boys wear special robes and help during the Divine Liturgy. We need them to be ready and dressed in their robes by 10:15 a.m.

Girls, you can be part of the fun too! You can be a Liturgical Reader. Each Sunday, a different girl can volunteer to read an exciting story called The Epistle in English. You also get to lead everyone in saying the Creed and the Our Father in English. It's like being a storyteller and a leader!

If you are interested in being a Liturgical Server, please contact Father Ev! (frevagoras@afantis.org)

Athletics
